Billy Steel seen above left is regarded as one of the best players Dundee ever had, Along with Bobby Flavell the ace Dundee scorer above right he forged a great striking partnership and helped Dundee to reapeat the 1951 Scottish League Cup win the following year..
Dundee finished in Eighth place in 'A' Division that year, they were runners up in the Scottish Cup being humped by Motherwell 4-0 before a staggering crowd of 136,990, perhaps they got crowd fright!, They withdrew from the Forfarshire Cup because of other cup commitments and their average home gate was 20,500, They used 26 players that season with none sent off and Bobby Flavell was top scorer with 19 goals.

Bill Brown
Bill Brown pictured above was a legend in his football career, the Dundee, Tottenham and Scotland keeper was widely regarded as one of Scotland's finest keepers.
Bill was born in Arbroath in 1931. He signed for Dundee in 1949 after showing good form for junior side Carnoustie Panmure and he played in the team that beat Rangers 3-2 at Hampden in the Scottish League Cup Final of 1951, Bill made no appearences in the League Cup of 1952.
Bill Brown's career at Dens was interrupted when he served two years national service at RAF Leuchars but still he managed 215 appearances for Dundee. Bill went on to establish himself as Scotland's number one and represented his country in the World Cup Finals in Sweden before going on to win 28 full caps.
Word was getting around about Dundee's brilliant keeper and it was not long before the big English clubs took notice and started to express an interest in him and Spurs manager Bill Nicholson took Brown off to White Hart Lane in 1959 for a fee of £15,000 which was a massive fee at the time for a goalkeeper. Bill played in Spurs most successful side winning the league and cup double and becoming the first British team to win the European Cup Winners Cup.
After leaving Spurs Bill spent some time at Northampton before moving to Ontario with his wife and three kids. He worked as a property developer for many years in Canada.
Sadly Bill Brown died at his home in Canada after a lengthy illness at the end of 2004, Dundee can boast about many top class keepers but few would argue that Bill Brow was the best there ever was.
